SMPC Engages Campus Community on Santa Fe Community College Student Hub

We are excited to share the early progress of our work with Santa Fe Community College (SFCC) on the planning and design of a re-imagined Student Hub, an initiative focused on creating a more accessible, intuitive, and student-centered front door for student affairs.

Working in collaboration with SFCC and our project partners, including owner’s representative NV5 and wayfinding consultant Kuhlmann Levitt, Inc. (KLI), the team is currently advancing programming and early design concepts for the renovation and reconfiguration of approximately 150,000 square feet within the College’s West Wing. The project explores how existing spaces can be transformed to better support the integrated ecosystem of student services, improve navigation, and strengthen the overall campus experience.

As part of this process, members of the design team recently participated in a campus “office hours” event, inviting students, faculty, staff, and community members to share feedback and ideas. The turnout exceeded expectations, reflecting a high level of engagement and enthusiasm for the project. Attendees provided valuable insights into how spaces are currently used, where challenges exist, and what a more supportive and welcoming student experience could look like.

These conversations are helping to shape a design approach grounded in listening well to clearly understand user needs, ensuring the Student Hub reflects the priorities of the diverse SFCC community while supporting the College’s long-term goals.

We look forward to continuing this collaborative process and sharing the direction of the project as our efforts advance.
