Saranam Opens New Westside Family Campus in Albuquerque

May 12, 2026

Last Thursday, SMPC joined Saranam, residents, and community partners to celebrate the opening of the ADC Family Campus on Albuquerque’s Westside — an important expansion of Saranam’s long-standing work supporting families experiencing homelessness.

Saranam’s two-year transitional living program provides families with stable housing, education, case management, and a supportive community designed to help participants build long-term independence and stability. Their mission is centered on empowering families to end homelessness and poverty through housing, education, and supportive communities.

The new campus expands Saranam’s ability to serve families in Albuquerque and includes the Frances Thaxton Ash Family Center, a renovated former daycare facility that now provides spaces for classes, gatherings, children’s activities, laundry, and shared meals. The project was intentionally practical in approach — adapting and improving an existing building to support the daily needs of residents and staff while fitting within the larger campus environment.

Working within a design-build framework alongside ECOTerra and the consultant team, SMPC helped transform the modest structure into a welcoming, functional resource for the community it serves. The work focused less on architectural expression and more on creating durable, comfortable spaces that support connection, learning, and everyday routines.

The ribbon-cutting ceremony featured remarks from Saranam Executive Director Tracy Weaver, U.S. Senator Martin Heinrich, and Pastor Danuta, a graduate of Saranam’s program. Their comments reflected the broader impact of Saranam’s work — providing families not only with housing, but with stability, support, and the opportunity to move from surviving to thriving.

Projects like the ADC Family Campus are possible through the continued support of community partners, donors, and volunteers. To learn more about Saranam’s work or find ways to contribute, visit Saranam Albuquerque.
