SANTA BARBARA MARTINEZTOWN MULTIGENERATIONAL CENTER
Albuquerque, New Mexico

Albuquerque, New Mexico
Completed in collaboration with the City of Albuquerque, the Santa Barbara Martineztown Multigenerational Center is a 5,000-square-foot community facility designed to support connection, wellness, and lifelong learning. Located on the east side of an existing city park along Edith Boulevard, the center provides accessible, adaptable spaces for residents of all ages.
The layout prioritizes flexibility, with a high-bay multipurpose room that accommodates events ranging from pickleball games and fitness classes to community gatherings. A folding partition allows the space to be subdivided for simultaneous uses, while expansive west-facing glazing offers visual connection to the park and surrounding neighborhood.
Supporting spaces include a staffed reception area, administrative offices, classrooms, and a pantry. Two well-lit classrooms are designed for a range of programming—from arts and crafts to future tech-based instruction. The interior design balances durability with a welcoming atmosphere, offering casual seating, built-in shelving, and easy-to-maintain finishes.
At the City’s request, the project utilized Structurally Insulated Panels (SIPs) for the building envelope and modular partitions for the interior to expedite construction and support energy performance. The integration of these nontraditional systems required close coordination and innovative detailing, offering valuable insight into the balance between construction efficiency and long-term functionality.
This modest yet impactful center reflects the City’s commitment to equitable community infrastructure and provides a lasting resource for recreation, education, and neighborhood engagement.
