BERNALILLO COUNTY PUBLIC SAFETY TRAINING ACADEMY
Albuquerque, New Mexico

Albuquerque, New Mexico
The Bernalillo County Public Safety Training Academy is a state-of-the-art, 40,000-square-foot facility designed to unify training programs for the Bernalillo County Fire Department and Sheriff’s Office. Situated on a 12-acre site, the pre-engineered metal building brings together a variety of specialized training functions under one roof, fostering collaboration and efficiency.
The facility features modern classrooms, a lecture hall, a fitness center, and administrative offices, providing essential resources for comprehensive training. In addition, the site includes dedicated hands-on training areas, such as a five-story fire tower, a vehicle maneuvering course, and a simulation house, ensuring real-world scenario preparedness.
By centralizing previously dispersed training programs, the academy strengthens coordination between the Fire Department and Sheriff’s Office, reinforcing a unified public safety presence for the county. Special attention was given to acoustic design, creating an environment that supports both education and day-to-day operations. Designed with future expansion in mind, the facility is built to evolve alongside the county’s growing public safety needs.
This project was delivered through a developer-led design-build approach, leveraging the collaboration of SMPC Architects, RDG Planning & Design, and key engineering consultants to achieve a highly functional and adaptable training complex.
