Bernalillo County Fire Station 36

Albuquerque, New Mexico

Bernalillo County Fire Station 36 is the first all-electric fire station in New Mexico and home to the state’s first fully electric fire truck, marking a significant step forward in sustainable public safety infrastructure. Located at Osuna and Edith in Albuquerque’s North Valley, the 12,000-square-foot station combines modern performance with a design that reflects its surrounding community.

An adjacent 1,800-square-foot Community Risk Reduction Center (CRRC) supports education and proactive safety initiatives, making fire services more visible and accessible to the public.

The design takes cues from the North Valley’s residential character, using climate-responsive strategies and regionally inspired materials to create a building that blends naturally with its neighborhood. Warm, earthy tones reinforce a sense of familiarity and comfort—both for firefighters and the community.

Sustainability is central to the project. Fully electric vehicles and building systems, combined with energy-efficient features, reflect Bernalillo County’s commitment to environmentally responsible infrastructure and forward-looking public service.
