SMPC Architects has partnered with Summit Construction to participate in the 2016 Parade of Playhouses benefiting New Mexico Appleseed, a nonprofit nonpartisan organization providing services to the underserved in our state.
The SMPC/Summit team has thoughtfully designed and constructed the ‘House of Flying Shadows‘, a Ninja playhouse of redwood lumber and steel structure. Incorporating the five elements of Earth, Water, Fire, Air, and Wind, the house is organized around the 4 square tatami mat concept and includes features that represent Ninja warrior training tools. Each element is represented by particular features: Earth is the sandbox and lumber; Water is stepping stones and tsunami slide; Fire is red sunshade and bars; Air is climbing wall, spiral steps, and ropes; Wind is the wood slat wall surround permitting breezes to enter and move through. The house engages the little warrior by providing hidden passages and playful surprises.
This year’s fundraiser gala is scheduled to take place on the evening of September 23 at the ABQ BioPark Zoo where all the playhouses will be auctioned. Come and bid on this wonderful shrine to bring home to your little Ninja warrior.
