SMPC celebrates four major project milestones in three remarkable weeks, including grand openings for Bernalillo County Fire Station 36, the Transportation Systems Technology Center at RioTECH, and CNM Film & Digital Media and the New Mexico Media Arts Collective at the Albuquerque Rail Yards.

Albuquerque Public Schools celebrated the opening of the new Duranes Early Childhood Center, the district’s first campus dedicated entirely to Pre-K and special education Pre-K programs. The new center gives the longtime Duranes school site a renewed purpose while expanding access to early childhood education for Albuquerque families.

SMPC co-hosted a CREW New Mexico hardhat tour of the CNM/RRPS RioTECH Automotive Technology Center, a new facility preparing Rio Rancho students for careers in automotive and electric vehicle technology.

SMPC attended the East Mountain Partnership Breakfast and shared visuals for the East Mountain School campus expansion, including a new Middle School planned for the East Mountains.

The recent topping out of the Transportation Technology Center at RioTECH marks an important milestone for both construction progress and a shared vision for education in Rio Rancho. Hosted by Franken Construction, the event brought together SMPC, Central New Mexico Community College (CNM), Rio Rancho Public Schools (RRPS), and the subcontractors and tradespeople whose work is shaping the building every day.

As part of an ongoing collaboration with Santa Fe Community College, SMPC is helping envision a reimagined Student Hub that better supports how students access and experience campus services. The project focuses on reconfiguring existing space to create a more intuitive and welcoming environment, guided by strong participation from the campus community. Feedback gathered خلال recent engagement sessions is informing a design approach rooted in understanding user needs and strengthening connections across the college.

Rammed earth construction is taking shape at Bernalillo County Fire Station 36, where a 3,000-square-foot courtyard is being defined by hand-crafted walls designed to support firefighter wellness. A recent site visit offered a close look at this tactile building process—one that connects material, craft, and the New Mexico landscape in a meaningful way.
