Eastern New Mexico University students, staff, alumni and community members celebrated the grand opening of the new Al Whitehead Field at Greyhound Stadium, Saturday, September 10th.  A ribbon cutting ceremony was held just before the ENMU Greyhounds took the field for the inaugural game. Greyhounds Head Coach Josh Lynn said of the stadium “It sits right on campus. Our old stadium sat about eight miles outside of town. It’s one of the nicest Division 2 facilities in the nation”. The new stadium provides a NCAA Division II Football, Track & Field, and Soccer Facility and is shared by the Portales Rams, of Portales High School.

The $15.3M stadium was designed by SMPC Architects and McClain+Yu Architects of Albuquerque. Bradbury Stamm Construction is the General Contractor. The stadium supports grandstands for 4000 spectators, bermed seating for an additional 500 spectators, with sports lighting, scoreboards, concessions, locker rooms, public restrooms, ticket booths, press box, and parking for about 600 vehicles.

A sold out crowd of over 4,500 fans were in attendance as the ENMU Greyhounds outplayed their opponents, the Western New Mexico University Mustangs 37-16.
